This painted tapestry of Napoleon III's wife, Empress Eugenie, came from a French estate. From the 1800s this rare painted tapestry, painted on tapestry base, is a rendition of the famous Empress Eugénie and her Ladies In-Waiting by Xavier Winterhalter and hangs in the Museo Napoleonico Museum in Rome. In the detail photos with this, you can see the original painting of Eugénie and her ladies in-waiting. This piece, called a Cartoon, was either done prior to the painting as a study or after they original painting was finsihed. It was fashionable in France and again today to hang painted tapestries of your favorite famous royal portrait.
